I've had a regular Cold Avenger for a couple of years and it is one of the first pieces of gear I reach for when it starts getting cold out.
Last year I started working with a plasma cutter. When winter set in I realized I was going to need some sort of flame resistant head gear if I was to continue cutting. That's where I turned to Talus for a flame resistant version of a winter favorite. The FRC version of the Cold Avenger fits a bit more snug than what I am used to but that could be considered a good thing. A snug fit means there is less chance of stray spark getting in. Much like a favorite pair of shoes this new Cold Avenger has needed a little breaking in to get comfortable.
Thus far I have only two complaints about this new hood. When I wear it I have the bottom edge of the face opening covering my chin. Because of the way things fit, when I talk my jaw feels like that of a ventrilliquist's dummy. I've tried wearing ear muff style hearing protectors over this hood. Because of how stiff the hook and loop patches on the sides are, the hearing protectors aren't as effective as they normally are. This is where in ear plugs might work better.
I am reluctant to give any product a 5 star rating only because I haven't tried every product on the market. From what I have seen so far, the Cold Avenger FRC is probably your best choice if you work in the cold and need flame or spark protection.

I bought one of these for working out on the slope. Keeps you warm and dry on your face. Doesn't freeze up. Better than anything else out there.
